One of my very favorite “cards”…one  of the first I ever “made”
with an inspiring and encouraging message

~

“A Friday Wish” for us all…
several years ago,  I received this lovely wish…
passing along this encouraging wish to friends, family, loved ones, all beings,
nurturing an appreciation of this wonderful life that we have,
so many opportunities,
so much happiness and generosity,
overflowing with warmth, love and appreciation,

Angeles Arrien, a very special person

~

~

Angeles Arrien, a very special person in many people’s lives, Kathy’s included, passed away unexpectedly on April 24, 2014.  Angeles wrote a number of wonderful, insightful books, including The Second Half of Life, Opening the Eight Gates of Wisdom and The Four Fold Way, The Path of the Warrior, Teacher, Healer and Visionary.

Angeles also offered wonderful workshops, 2 of which Kathy had recently taken and was participating in this entire year, helping people to integrate the wonderful, useful ideas from her books into to our everyday lives.

Jampa wrote these words of encouragement to me, Kathy,  soon after Angeles had died.  I’m sharing these words because I  thought some of the ideas might be helpful to others who might also be adjusting to loss of special people in their own lives.

Set positive intention and motivation to grow as much as you are able to in this coming year

~

~

advice set a positive intention and motivation to grow this year

~

~

The quote, above,  was from last year, or maybe another previous year.

(written by kathy) I’ve been reflecting, thinking, pondering and creating the pages below over the past few days…to help myself with accessing motivation and direction in the coming days, weeks and months…..but I had forgotten about the quote above until I just noticed it in today’s views in the wordpress dashboard area…what a nice synchronicity.  I hadn’t planned on posting these new pages here on Reflections, but perhaps I will….since they tie in so closely with the ideas in that quote….

To remain strong and see each opportunity to grow and learn in life

~

advice stay strong, grow and learn in life

~

Watching the America’s Cup races, in person and on tv,
has been a really inspiring learning experience for kathy…
watching the level of enthusiasm, persistence, hard work, unbelievable effort, steady motivation…
just keeping going,
no matter what the outcome might or seems to be…
especially Friday’s races…wow!
and then today’s (Sunday’s)  races, too…
wow…talk about persistence and continuing effort…wow!
And…
impermanence, changing nature in life…
things not being the way they appear…
loosening up in life…
wow!

A special quote from the blog   Enlighten Daily:  Every Day

~

Yesterday’s  post from Pocket Perspectives (Kathy) …
it expands on  this idea

Noticing the “wow” in each moment of “now”

Another  post on PP, (Kathy)  from a few days ago…
noticing and appreciating this precious moment

Truly Appreciating the Moment of “now”

“Explore….dream….discover…..”

I posted this quote on Pocket Perspectives today, too….I think that it’s such a special thought…with such strongly positive motivation and intention….developing the willingness to take more chances…to explore, dream and discover…to be willing to let go of some of the old ways…to try out new ways….to become more flexible, more open and more ready and willing to try new perspectives and ideas….to explore, dream and discover….and that’s what every single post in  both blogs is about….Pocket Perspectives and Reflections from a Friend…to be willing to explore, to dream and to discover….may we all be open to doing so….

9/4 Shantideva’s Prayer

Shantideva was a Buddhist monk, scholar and poet who lived in the 8th Century.  I’ve read that  Shantideva’s Prayer is a daily prayer of HHDalai Lama.  I think the  longing, compassion, love, kindness and aspiration expressed in this prayer are exquisitely beautiful.  Post added by Kathy

This is one of H.H. the Dalai Lama’s favourite prayers, extracted from “A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life” by Shantideva, a Buddhist master from the monastic university of Nalanda, India and composed in the eighth century of the Christian era” FPMT brochure.
